gov auctions for cars, do they really work?

Hi, ive been seeing alot of questions about gov. auctions for selling cars are they any good? does anyone know if there are any gov. auctions in the NYC area? how do i find out about these auctions without paying a website. also do you pay taxes on a car that is won at an auction?

  1. You can fire off a call on the non-emergency phone line to any law enforcement office and ask for their auction dates for free. Also, of course you pay tax on these cars. Sales tax...for sales. .
  2. As a general rule, auctions that are open to the public and well publicized are not full of bargains. Despite what the TV ads trying to sell you something say. But you can sometimes get a "decent" deal. Non-dealers are generally responsible for sales tax and title and often a buyers fee is acessed on top of all cars sold. Most government auctions have to be advertised by law so you can usually find out about them by calling around. For example, call your city,call your county, call your state, call the post office. Do web searches. No need to pay any site. My county sheriffs department sells cars it seizes or they no longer need off of ebay. Generally, governments are required to auction cars off by law. (Doesnt have to be on ebay)
